Hello Friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! This month flew by and next year is knocking at my door!

I enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with my family and my intention, this season, was to share a card a week. But the month got busy and got away from me so I will share some of my cards for the next couple of days. but first I want to pay my respects to my dear friend and fellow CTMH consultant, Angela Ward.

She celebrated her Birthday and went on to her glorious Maker on December 15th after a long battle with cancer. I will miss her and our crafting times together. She taught me so much about scrapbooking and she taught me the meaning of sacrifice. She was a true giver and gave me heart heart 100%. After many years I had finally convinced her that stamping on her layouts was fun! She would say to me, " I can't believe you have me stamping!" And of course she was a natural. She is my Sassy Scrapper (her group name). I miss her and her sassy attitude and her all inclusive heart. She was a friend to anyone and everyone who would have her and she made me feel special. Her last words to me as she said her last goodbye was, "I love ya' girl!" I am thankful for our friendship.

Here is a card I've dedicated in her honor. Thank You for how you've changed my life forever! Love ya' girl!

Holiday Cheer

'Tis the season for Christmas cheer! This is a beautiful time of year; the lights, the music and lots of people wishing goodwill to all men. This time can also be a difficult time for those of us who have lost loved ones and are going through trials, but there is so much to be joyful for. Take a minute and reflect on the joys of the season.

I made this card because Christmas trees bring me joy. I love decorating my tree and I love sitting and looking at my tree all lit up. Simple joy...

Find the time this season to enjoy the simple the things that bring you joy.

A Month of Thanks

This month we all think about and express things that we are thankful for and as much as I try to remember to acknowledge my gratitude everyday, I do fall short. So it is a good thing to have reminders to help me realize how much I need to be thankful for.

Today, I'm thankful that Hurricane Sandy has completed her path of destruction. With the country uniting, we can help those areas that have been devastated by her path. They will recover and rebuild. My heart and prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.

I am also grateful to be a part of a company that does not hesitate to stand up and make a difference. Close To My Heart has made a way we all can help with relief efforts!

When you place an order of $50 or more in full retail products and purchase the November Stamp of the Month set, Capture the Date, for just $5, you can receive a stamp set of your choice (size A–E or M) for 50% off! To help with relief efforts, Close To My Heart will donate $1 to the American Red Cross for each November Stamp of the Month set that is sold in conjunction with this campaign. Help us provide relief to those affected by Hurricane Sandy by participating in this campaign and relief effort.

Visit my website and join my on-line gathering this month and stock up on those stamps and supplies you'll need for your Holiday preparations and while you do that, you will also be helping storm relief efforts. Every dollar helps.

This is one of my cards I made during World Card Making Day. I will be sharing more cards later, that I made for World Card making Day.

Please take this time and be thankful...and do your best to be thankful everyday as if it were our last.

Studio J® Tricks to Add Flair to Your Layouts

Even though Studio J® is fast and easy to use, it is helpful to know some great tricks that can make customizing your layouts even more exciting. Here are some Studio J tricks straight from our professional Close To My Heart artists:

1. Customize your background and texture paper. You can change the color and intensity of the background and texture paper included in whichever kit you choose. Simply select the piece of background and texture paper, change the color in the color selection tool, and increase or decrease the intensity of the color in that same popup box.

2. Crop My Stickease® quotes, titles, and tags. The cropping feature on the My Stickease images allows you to select a section of a quote, title, or tag to use as a border or other embellishment.

3. Create a customized My Stickease image. If you have a specific image in mind to use as an embellishment on your page, you can create a customized My Stickease to fit your theme perfectly. Simply add a text box, photo hanger, ribbon, ribbon slides, and Stickease to create the little suitcase! So easy! Be sure to crop or send elements behind other elements when necessary, and add several elements together for a unique look!

4. Select more than one element at a time. If you want to move several elements of your layout at once, simply click and drag your mouse around the elements you would like to select. Let’s take buttons, for example. After the buttons have been selected, you can click the icons in the popup box to choose to align the buttons vertically or horizontally if you desire.

5. Make faux washi tape with vellum text boxes. To create the look of a piece of clear washi tape, make a small rectangular text box, filled with vellum background (this is the default color for text boxes). You can make the tape strips as large or small as you want, or even layer them for more emphasis.

6. Stretch one photo across multiple photo wells. If you have fewer photos than photo wells, instead of deleting the excess wells, try scaling the picture to a larger size and then copying the picture to other photo wells and matching the photos up until they align with an almost seamless image. This trick works best with photo wells that are adjacent to each other.

7. Create ruffled ribbon. Select “Ribbons” in the drop-down menu under the Embellishments toolset. Choose ribbon tab and rotate the tab so that it is vertical on the page. Then layer several tabs on top of one another, sending every other one to the back to create a ruffled look.

8. Create a jagged border with text boxes. You can create a jagged border simply by rotating multiple text boxes about 45 degrees and making them the same color as the background. Put these boxes on top of a long, rectangular box of another color, and you’ve got a jagged border

9. Change the background of your layout. Sometimes you may like the photo and journal arrangement in a layout, and yet want to change the background colors. Because photos sit on top of everything else, this is easy to do. Simply pull a journaling box over the space you want for a different background and fill it with a color from the color selection tool or a patterned paper from the Papers toolset. Then, send it backwards until the photo wells are on top of your new background.

Bonus Trick! Use keyboard keys to make embellishments. Did you know that some of the best tools for creating custom embellishments are the basic keys on your keyboard? It’s as simple as typing into a journaling box with no background color. Use periods to make a polka dot pattern, angle brackets to create a trendy Chevron look, overlapping pound signs to make burlap, question marks to make rope, and so much more!

Try these tricks on your own Studio J® layouts. If you have not tried it out, it's EASY and FREE to try it out! Click here to go to my website and try it out. October is the perfect month to give it a go because for every 9 layouts you create, you’ll get a 10th layout for FREE!

Check back later this week for my layouts using these tips and tricks!

There are MANY great things coming from the new season idea book and I'm sure that you all will be just as excited as I am about it. There is something for everyone...and I mean EVERYONE! The classic scrapbooker, the card maker, the stamper, the mini albumer (I think I just made up a new word), the altered artist and the digital scrapper. I am not disappointed and neither will you be.

Speaking of digital scrapping, I prefer to call Studio J on-line scrapping. It does not require software and all you have to do is sign on to your profile that you create from my website. It's very easy. Well, Close To My Heart has made Studio J available to everyone without a membership AND they have lowered the cost for a 2 page layout to $6.95! And if that's not great enough they've created beautiful Express layouts that are specifically designed for the most scrapped events in our lives.

How many of you have your babies or events stored in JPEGs just waiting to be placed on beautifully designed layouts? I'm guilty!. My wonderful friend, Angela has a great t-shirt that says. "Don't let your babies grow up to be JPEGs". And unfortunately, that's what we do. So I decided I was going to try out the New Express Studio J...and here it is.

These ladies are members of my meetup.com group - "McDonough Scrap Attack". I've had these photos in my computer since January 2011. And it took me 5 minutes to complete these 2 pages. This is PERFECT for me because I spend most of my time making cards and will complete the occasional layout here and there. But this will literally enable me to do something with all the pictures on my computer.

Now for those of you who want to create your own design, well the sky is the limit with Studio J! Go to my website today and try it out. IT DOESN'T COST A THING FOR YOU TO TRY IT!!

Paper Crafts Gallery Idol Entry

Once again I entered the Open Call for the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol Competition. The theme for this round was to create an Encouragement card. Competition was fierce with almost 2000 entries. What a daunting task they had choosing the top 20! I didn't make it to the top 20 but the ladies who did are extremely talented.

Here is my entry:

I love flowers so of course I stuck to my comfort zone. Maybe next year I'll step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself more. Good luck to the TOP 20! Voting beings today so be sure to visit Paper Crafts Connection blog to see their cards from the "You Color My World" challenge.

Celebration

This past weekend was a fun, full time celebrating my son's graduation from High School. The road was paved with many life lessons for him. Lessons that he has taken and learned from; and he has now blossomed into a young man full of compassion, integrity and maturity. I am so proud of him...so proud.

His school has a tradition where all the seniors receive letters of encouragement from family, friends and faculty during the Senior breakfast and walk. It is something that they can keep and cherish the rest of their lives.
This is the card I made and wrote my words of encouragement to him.

When I asked him if he got my card, all he said was,"You wrote all over the card Mom!" I told him I had a lot to say...and I still didn't say everything I wanted to say. I'll leave that for some other cards.

January Sketch Challenge/Love Who You Are

More than creating something outside of my comfort zone in a card challenge, my biggest challenge is  being able to complete a challenge without the daily business of my life keeping me from it!

So to my joy I was able to participate in Mema's Crafts  January Challenge. The Challenge was to create a card using this sketch by Roni from "Ink Stains"

The Challenge is in celebration of Lesia's (Mema's craft) Birthday so we needed to use whatever was our fancy for a birthday celebration. My fancy is most always using "BLING"!

For my card, I rotated the sketch.I used black CS as my base and the animal print paper from Close To My Heart's "Roxie", one of my favorite paper packs. The stamp set is a new one that will be available with CTMH beginning February 1st (Fashionista). I stamped and paper pieced the Fashionista sista to coordinate with the colors of the card and then I blinged out her dress. Isn't she fabulous?!
I think this stamp set is going t get used up!
